Golf Breaks at Netherwood House

Fancy your chances of a hole-in-one?

Netherwood is the perfect base for golfers exploring the delights of nearby Highland courses. Boat of Garten is one of James Braid’s most attractive designs, undulating gently through silver birches and offering lovely views of the Cairngorms. Rated number 37 in Golf World’s 2023 review of Scotland’s courses.

Newtonmore Golf Course, clubhouse, first and last holes situated in the middle of the village, extends down to the River Spey along easy walking fairways. This 18 hole, 6031 yards, par 70 course offers a challenge to all golfers, set in the wide, open Strath with lovely views of local mountains. There are regular golfing competitions, and a particularly popular golf week in August. The club is a community hub, informal and relaxed. The clubhouse offers comfortable facilities and a bar.

Neighbouring Kingussie Golf Club sits above the village, offering a similar course length and challenge to that of Newtonmore but in a very different setting. The course climbs high then crosses through hilly ground, bordered by heather and trees before dropping back down to the clubhouse. Views of the southern Cairngorms along the way are fabulous. Like its neighbour, this course stages competitions throughout the year and offers comfortable clubhouse facilities with a bar.

In Aviemore, Spey Valley is a superb championship course which hosted a European Challenge Tour event for 10 years – won in 2013 by US PGA Champion Brooks Koepka. Every hole has a distinct personality and views of the surrounding mountains.
Newtonmore, Grantown – on – Spey (both with James Braid connections), Carrbridge and Kingussie are delightful local clubs where a warm welcome is assured. More championship golf is not far away, at Nairn, Castle Stuart and Lossiemouth.

Netherwood has great flexibility and variety in its accommodation which would suit golf groups. In total it can sleep 12 but it is perfect for groups of 4, 6 or 8. There are 2 double bedrooms and 2 twin bedrooms. In total these can sleep 8 but also just 6 people each in their own bed which is perfect for a group of a men or women. In addition there is a bedroom with 2 sets of bunk beds; 2 or 4 can sleep in here but we would recommend 2 adults or 4 children. Hence, if you are a mixed group of couples there is plenty of space!

Finally there is a separate small child’s bedroom with a cabin bed and cot.
One twin bedroom is downstairs, adjacent to a bathroom. Upstairs there is a bath/shower room with a separate toilet.
We still have several weeks available the summer with a minimum stay of 3 nights. The cost shared between a group is great value for money!

Situated on the outskirts of the village of Newtonmore on a quiet road leading up into beautiful Glen Banchor – one of Speyside’s secret treasures – the house is set in a woodland garden with a barbecue area and swing. Well-equipped, very spacious, comfortable and warm (full oil central heating plus AGA and log fire). This attractive, family-friendly house offers VisitScotland 4-Star self-catering accommodation for up to 6-8 adults and 4-6 children. The house is set in a woodland garden with a barbecue area and swing.
